This 4-5 hour tour is a treat for your senses of sight, smell, touch and taste! We will take you to a tantalizing market with aromatic spices and beautiful fresh vegetables on display. You can touch, smell and taste them and learn how they are used. You can even buy some to experiment with later on.
We will take you to the market at 11 am (for a lunch package) or 5 pm (for a dinner package) and your guide will help you out with whatever information you need. You can take a walk through the entire market to survey the produce. You are sure to be taken by the delightful displays and be influenced by the bargaining practices of the locals. You can taste the items you don't recognize and you can pick out the ones you like. You may want to buy some to use in your cooking class later.
Indian cuisine, which itself comprises of numerous regional cuisines, is famous worldwide. Be it North India's Butter Chicken and Dal Makhani with naan or paranthas (which has a Mughlai influence), or Maharashtra's Bhelpuri, Bhajiya, Vada Pav or Paani Puri, or South India's Idli Dosa or Malabar coastal cuisine, or Kolkatta's Macher Jhol and Sandesh. Today you will get the opportunity to be hosted by an Indian family who will open up their home and hearts to you.
A regular North Indian meal consists of rice or breads with lentils (dal) and vegetables (dry or with curry) or a non vegetarian dish. There is usually curd or raita, some salad, pickles or papads, and to wrap it up, a sweet dish of some kind. We love our food and you will too! In the cooking session, you can prepare a full Indian meal under guidance from hosts. Learn to use the right utensils for the right purpose, mix spices, roast them, prepare masala, garnish the dishes and serve them. In the end, you will get to enjoy this food of course!
