The ancient sport of Kabutarbaazi is a unique sport that you can enjoy in Delhi if you really want to do something offbeat. There are still some people in Old Delhi who are masters of this sport. They can control flocks of pigeons with just a few verbal commands. There are various skill levels to be attained in this sport, the highest being that of a Khalifa.
We can pick you up from your hotel if you want, early in the morning. We will take you to Old Delhi which has huge populations of pigeons and where this sport is still practiced. After you have had a hearty breakfast and are charged up, we will go to meet a kabutarbaaz and learn the tricks of the trade from him.
There are Kabutarbaazi competitions too that are held from time to time. Competing pigeon masters let their flocks up into the air and then try to control them with their commands. If a pigeon from one flock goes on to join the other then the original master loses his ownership of that pigeon. You will go atop a terrace and see how the kabutarbaaz controls his flock. You can try to imitate him and see if the pigeons pay you any attention.
The healthiest or prettiest pigeon is usually the king or the queen of the flock and the favorite of the pigeon master. It is likely to be a beautiful specimen so make sure you play with it and get some snaps clicked with it.
