The Golkonda Fort, located around 4 miles west from the heart of Hyderabad’s old city. According to legends, a sultan (emperor) of the region built the Taramati Baradari pavilion that he could see all the courtesans singing, dancing right from the Fort.

A problem of water shortage cropped up during the late 16th century that led the rulers of this region to build Hussain Sagar, the huge man-made lake in Hyderabad, located quite close to the heart of the city. The Buddha statue stands in the middle of this lake is one of the largest in the world. According to history, this statue was added to the lake in 1992 to pay respect to the influence of Buddhism during the early history in Andhra Pradesh. This state had been the hub of education till the 6th century.
